Cleaning the Glass

Use any window cleaner to clean the glass surface of Newtown products that don’t incorporate our Glass Guard option. If you are unsure whether your windows have Glass Guard, please contact the company from which you purchased your windows or doors.

Newtown Glass Guard will keep your windows’ exterior clean longer by reducing dirt’s ability to cling to the glass. To clean exterior glass surfaces of your Newtown window or door that has been treated with Glass Guard, simply rinse with warm water and wipe dry with a soft cloth. Do not use cleaners containing ammonia or abrasive cleaners. Newtown Glass Guard should be applied every few years to maintain the brilliance and luster of the glass.

Newtown recommends that you do not apply any films to the glass in your windows or doors. Every Newtown product features double-insulating glass, and films can cause excessive heat buildup between the glass panes, which can lead to cracks or seal failure.

Cleaning the Vinyl

Airborne contaminants and dirt should also be removed from the vinyl frames and sashes of your windows periodically. You’ll find that Newtown’s special-formula, premium-grade vinyl cleans beautifully with any mild detergent or even just soapy water. Caution: Never use petroleum-based cleaners or caustic chemicals on the vinyl.

Cleaning Screens

To clean Newtown screens, simply hose them off with water. Do not use aerosol cleaning agents on screens, as certain propellants in the cleaners can cause damage to the molded corner parts.

Lubricating Metallic Parts

Newtown products require very little maintenance. In fact they typically require no lubrication. In rare cases where conditions do require lubrication of metallic parts*, Newtown recommends that you use light machine oil sparingly.

* Metallic parts that may require lubrication include operable cranks on casement models or rollers on sliding patio doors.
